Personalize Your Proposal Writing
By Dan Safford

Most technical writing is marked by a complete lack of personal pronouns. Probably back in college a professor told you that technical reports had to be objective, dignified and professional, which, somehow, makes personal pronouns taboo.

Forget that advice. A proposal needs to be filled with we, us and our. You need to get across the notion that you have a team, working together to solve the client’s problem. Clients want to feel that they are getting personalized attention, not perfunctory attention performed by a sterile corporate structure.

Always remember that you are writing to people just like you!

In order to determine the stability of the subgrade material, it is anticipated that the County will perform deflection testing of the existing pavement. BFT staff will analyze the results of these tests to identify those areas where pavement removal, subgrade stabilization and pavement replacement are recommended. Based on these recommendations, a design will be drawn up to provide full-depth widening of the traveled way from 20 feet to 24 feet and to add 6-foot shoulders on both sides. It is anticipated that the structural strength of the pavement can be increased by providing an asphalt overlay to the entire roadway and shoulders.

We expect that the County will perform deflection testing of the existing pavement to determine the stability of the subgrade material. Once this occurs, our team will analyze the results of the tests to identify those areas where we can recommend pavement removal, subgrade stabilization and pavement replacement. Once we have made these recommendations, we will prepare a design to provide full-depth widening of the traveled way from 20 feet to 24 feet and to add 6-foot shoulders on both sides. This will increase the structural strength of the pavement by providing an asphalt overlay to the entire roadway and shoulders.
